Kobakayawa Sena is the story's main protagonist, also given the name of Eyeshield 21 mainly when he's playing football on the field. Due to his weak nature and his inability to defend himself, he was bullied alot in primary school and always had be saved by his two childhood friends, Anezaki Mamori and later on Kaitani Riku. He became whats known as a gofer - which literally means, a person who is often sent on errands. He always did peoples chores and errands, but at the same time, it also allowed him to build his speed and dodging ability until he got his talent of running. When he joined his senoirs years of highschool, Sena got forced into joining the American Football by Hiruma Youchi, who is the Captain as well as the Quarterback of the Deimon Devil Bats team. Hiruma was also the person who gave Sena the name "Eyeshield 21", mainly to conceal his identity (in every game, he basically has to wear an eyeshield to cover his eyes). And even though Sena joined the team as the club's secretary at first (he basically used this job to cover his activities on the field as Eyeshield 21), he started growing really fond of the sport overtime as well as being part of the team.
a runningback position? huh?
Sena's position on the field is whats known as the Running back. In a general American Football game, its the Runningback's job to receives catches from the Quarterback, catch passes and block. You need to be able to run really fast to have this position.
The Runningback is also protected by a group of Lineman, who prevent the opposing players from piling up on or attacking the Runningback as he runs to score a touchdown. The Lineman basically give the Runningback room so he can run without anyone interferring with his play.
